Standing with Those Who Keep Us Safe

Supporting Law Enforcement is personal to me. My father and both grandfathers were Police Officers, and I grew up understanding the sacrifices Officers and their families make to keep us safe.

From increasing Police presence as a Village Trustee to delivering resources and protections in Congress, I have consistently backed the men and women who wear the badge.

New York State: Pro-Criminal, Anti-Law Enforcement

The anti-Police agenda is no longer confined to the political fringe. The Democratic Socialists of America’s platform calls for redirecting Police funding as a step toward “fully abolishing the police and prison system,” while its abolition working group calls for cutting Police budgets annually “towards zero.”

New York Democrats have put that agenda into practice. Governor Hochul’s cashless bail continues returning repeat offenders to our streets. Her administration fired 2,000 Correction Officers amid dangerous prison conditions and staffing shortages, and she signed a statewide ban on 287(g) agreements, blocking local Law Enforcement from partnering with federal authorities to help remove dangerous criminal illegal immigrants.

In New York City, Mayor Mamdani brought the socialist movement to City Hall after years of calling to defund the NYPD. Now, sanctuary policies limiting cooperation with federal immigration authorities have reached Long Island, with East Hampton Town and Village becoming Suffolk County’s first municipalities to adopt them.

I’m fighting their spread by reserving discretionary federal funding for communities committed to Law Enforcement cooperation, public safety, and the rule of law.

Delivering Resources, Protections, and Results

While socialists talk about cutting Police budgets toward zero, I’ve delivered more than $5.25 million for vehicles, equipment, and technology for Suffolk County Law Enforcement, including:

  • $1.2 million — Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office

  • $825,000 — Suffolk County Police Department

  • $1 million — Southold Police Department

  • $782,000 — Southampton Town Police Department

  • $280,000 — Riverhead Police Department

  • $206,000 — Sag Harbor Police Department

  • $158,000 — Quogue Police Department

  • $150,000 — Asharoken Police Department

  • $133,000 — Northport Village Police Department

  • $123,000 — Head of the Harbor Police Department

Backing the Blue with More Than Words

I’ve led and supported legislation giving Law Enforcement the tools and protections they need, including:

  • Strengthening the COPS Program and supporting the POLICE Act, Back the Blue Act, and Protect and Serve Act.

  • Leading the bipartisan DETECT Fentanyl and Xylazine Act, now law, giving Law Enforcement better technology to stop deadly drugs.

  • Strengthening reporting on attacks against Officers and identifying available mental health resources.

  • Expanding protections for qualified active and retired Officers, including concealed carry and retired service weapons.

  • Defending the Second Amendment rights of responsible, law-abiding gun owners while promoting firearm safety and responsible ownership.

I also co-led bipartisan legislation to further reduce federal taxes on overtime for Police Officers and other First Responders.

The contrast is clear: Socialists want to cut Police budgets toward zero and ultimately abolish Police. I’m delivering millions to give Suffolk County’s Officers the equipment, protections, and resources they need to keep us safe.
