Helping You Beat the Bureaucracy
Making Washington Work for Long Island
Washington is known for bureaucracy, delays, and dysfunction. I'm focused on making it work for Long Islanders.
Since taking office, I've helped more than 5,500 constituents cut through federal red tape and recover more than $16.5 million in tax refunds, Veterans' benefits, Social Security payments, Treasury and OPM payments, disaster assistance, DOJ settlements, and other federal benefits.
Whether solving an individual problem or reforming the laws that created it, my goal is simple: make the federal government work the way it should.
Holding Washington Accountable
Too often, Washington creates unnecessary obstacles instead of delivering results. Veterans wait months or years for benefits they've earned. First Responders struggle to access care. Passport applications stall. Tax refunds are delayed. Seniors face endless bureaucratic hurdles.
I don't believe that's acceptable.
Regardless of which party controls Washington, I'll hold every administration accountable for delivering the service taxpayers deserve. Cutting bureaucracy should mean eliminating red tape—not reducing the services people rely on.
The Best Casework Team in Congress
Helping constituents isn't a side job—it's one of my most important responsibilities.
Since 2023, my constituent services team has helped more than 5,500 Long Islanders resolve problems with federal agencies and recover more than $16.5 million that rightfully belonged to them.
We've helped residents work through the IRS, Department of Veterans Affairs, Social Security Administration, FEMA, the Passport Agency, Department of Education, Small Business Administration, U.S. Postal Service, and many other federal agencies.
We've expedited passports for families facing emergencies. We've helped Veterans receive long-overdue benefits. We've secured Purple Hearts for two Vietnam Veterans—including one who had been denied for decades. We continued serving constituents throughout a government shutdown because Long Islanders shouldn't have to wait for Washington to get its act together.
Most importantly, when someone calls my office, we don't ask whether they're a Republican, Democrat, or Independent.
We ask, "How can we help?"
Then we get to work.
Fixing the System—Not Just the Symptoms
Helping one constituent at a time matters. Fixing the underlying problems helps thousands more.
That's why I've worked with Republicans and Democrats to improve government accountability, reduce unnecessary delays, and make federal agencies more responsive to the people they serve.
That includes legislation to:
Reduce agency delays by increasing accountability for the federal workforce.
Modernize the passport system and prevent future backlogs.
Strengthen accountability at FEMA so disaster victims receive better service.
Improve Veterans' access to health care and earned benefits.
Protect Social Security benefits for public servants.
Prevent disaster relief fraud and waste.
Ensure settlement funds go to victims—not political slush funds.
Maintain postal service during emergencies and facility closures.
Delivering Results Beyond Legislation
Oversight matters just as much as legislation.
When staffing shortages threatened care for 9/11 First Responders and survivors, I led a bipartisan effort demanding action to strengthen the World Trade Center Health Program. Within weeks, the Administration began hiring to fill critical vacancies.
That's how Congress should work: identify problems, hold government accountable, and deliver results.
Government Should Work for You
The federal government exists to serve the American people—not the other way around.
Whether I'm helping a Veteran recover earned benefits, a family obtain an emergency passport, a senior resolve a Social Security issue, or fighting to eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy altogether, my mission is the same.
I'll continue working to cut red tape, improve accountability, and ensure Long Islanders receive the benefits, services, and respect they've earned from their government.
